FC Twente has won its first official match of the season. In the first qualifying round of the Europa League, UE Santa Coloma visited from Andorra. In the first half the visitors kept the damage limited, but it was after half time that the Tukkers built up their lead to a considerable 6-0 victory, by way of substitutes Tadic, Fer and Chadli.
The visitors from Andorra managed to hold back FC Twente from scoring for quite some time. Although the Tukkers had almost constant possession and threatened a lot, it took until the 29th minute before the difference was expressed in figures. Immediately following a shot from Wesley Verhoek which bounced back via the inside of the goal post, it was a hit. After a long ball from Tim Breuker, who like Robbert Schilder was making his official debut, the latter could open the score on a pass from Glynor Plet. A minute later, after being set up by Joshua John, Schilder tapped it in for 2-0.
Further strikes then took some time to appear. The chances offered weren’t put to good use by the Tukkers. With Nacer Chadli and Dusan Tadic also debuting on the field, the score then started to notch up quickly. Chadli formed the basis of the 3-0 that was completed by Tadic. The Belgian was also behind the 4-0 from John. The 5-0 was a combination between Schilder and Chadli, after which Plet was able to finish. Finally Plet closed it off with his second hit of the evening.
